   English children must attend school until they are 16 year old.
education is free for all children from 5 to 18.
the school year is 39 weeks  long and is divided into six terms.
main school holidays are : christmas - (2 keeks); spring-(2weeks); and summer -(6 weeks).
children are required to attend school until 16, when they sit for an examination called the GCSE (general certificate of secondary education)
after completing the GCSE, some student leave school, others go into technical college, while others continue at high school for two more years.
there are different types of secondary school : comprehensive schools are open to all children. grammar schools require an entrance exam; they are selective schools. high school are open to all students.
