Many of us would say Abdullah's hobby is a dangerous one. Abdullah looks at the matter quite differently. This thirteen-year-old boy from Baha region in Saudi Srabia, has got a collection of over one hundred scorpions of different varirties and colours plus a good number of snakes. H
e has been going to forests and valleys ever since he was ten to hunt for these creatures.
In an interview with a Saudi newspaper, Abdullah confidently affirmed that he practises this hobby to donate his catches to laboratories and hospitals. Asked whether he was not afraid of these venomous creatures, he said: ' Man should be brave and courageous ; it is disgraceful to be a coward.' He added that courage alone is not enough. Expertise is also necessary. ' The scorpion stings a person only if he moves his body. If he lets the scorpion pass by without moving, it doesn't harm him.' he explained.
His parents are not at all worried about their son's dangerous hobby. 'We certainly cannot interfere with his choice so long as he doesn't hurt himself or neglect his school work' Abdullah's father explained. His mother is no proud of him. She aid; ' Abdullah is now famous all over the country. And fortunately enough, no snake or scorpion has ever harmed or stung him !'
